Scooter Hooligans Take Over Santa Fe!

These tough looking bikers invaded Santa Fe over the Fourth of July holiday, coming all the way from Bishop, CA to do the touristy thang.

The fearsome guy on the Bat Cycle is Joey "I didn't listen to my mother and my face is stuck like this" and his cutie pie lil' sis on the Stella Audrey is Gracie.

After some gentle cajoling from the kids ("can we go for a ride, can we, can we huh...huh...huh!!!) we took them for a ride. Joey went for the Bat Cycle, I guess it was more cool looking to a 10 yr old boy raised on Japanese anime and other futuristic fare.

Gracie went for a ride on the Stella and even though she looked like a big mushroom from Super Mario Land with my helmet on, she had a great ride, she couldn't go fast enough. And of course my brother had a great time too, he had a moment of mid life exhilaration (he was a scooter Mod in high school, like me) until of course his wife reminded him that he was married with two small children and would not be riding a scooter anywhere until he put a helmet on! It was nice that I got to give him that small rush of nostalgia though, I think he had a good time.

We all drove down to the Plaza, which was a madhouse of tourists, and had some ice cream and listened to a cool band in the bandstand. We were loving the scoots for doing the touristy thing, I would never have suggested going downtown in the car, that would have been madness! If you know anyone who is visiting, have them rent a scooter, I saw ads for iScoot in the Reporter and they have fairly reasonable rates. Ugh, the price of gas alone would be enough to make them wanna rent scooters.
